The Office of the Inspector-General of Aged Care is proud to announce the release of the Annual Work Plan 2025–26, the first under the leadership of Natalie Siegel-Brown .

This year’s theme, “From Aspiration to Action: Realising Human Rights and Person-Centred Care in Aged Care,” reflects a bold commitment to driving transformational change across the aged care system. The work plan outlines a strategic focus on ensuring the vision of the Aged Care Act 2024 is not only understood but actively implemented, placing older people and their lived experiences at the centre of reform.

Key priorities for 2025–26 include:

  • Promoting kind, compassionate, high-quality care that upholds rights, identity, and independence.
  • Embedding systemic oversight of how the Commonwealth manages complaints in aged care.
  • Delivering practical, accessible reports and products that elevate the voices of older people, support policy reform, and contribute to the public discourse on aged care.
  • Highlighting areas of innovation and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement in aged care administration, regulation, and funding.

This work plan is shaped by extensive engagement with stakeholders, including providers, advocates, peak bodies, and individuals with lived experience and aims to deliver oversight that is collaborative, impactful, and grounded in human rights.
